Face of Nations
By Tiffanny Hammonds
Tiffanny Hammonds is a muralist and visual storyteller from Oakland, CA, shaped by the culture ofTacoma, WA. Her artistic journey began at age twelve with a community mural at St. Vincent De Paul, igniting a lifelong mission to uplift and reflect her community through art. Rooted in portraiture, oftendepicting Black figures in oil and spray paint, her practice expanded after personal loss, evolving intoabstract and figurative expressions of grief, healing, and faith.Since 2018, her signature series, Face of Nations, grew into a vibrant tapestry of ancestral voices, “birthedin grief, perfected in worship.” Inspired by the colors of atmospheric environments and spiritualsymbolism, often likened to masks and layered with scripture, her work explores identity, language, and theunseen: the spirit. Her murals, installations, and commissions appear across Washington in schools, housing developments, healing spaces, and public landmarks. Each piece offers an invitation to reflect, a quiet altar call in publicview, where testimony becomes texture and legacy becomes line work.
