Legend of the Water Dragon
By Hilltop Heritage Band & Drumline

Hilltop Heritage Band and Drumline are under the direction of Johannah Dietrich.

Hilltop Heritage Middle School Advanced Band performs Legend of the Water Dragon by Edward Kennedy.

Legend of the Water Dragon by Edward Kennedy was commissioned by the Moggil State School Band in Brisbane, Australia. The word Moggil comes from the Australian Aboriginal name 'Magil' which means Water Dragon, the inspiration for this piece.

Australian water dragons are fairly large lizards which have been around for 20 million years. They can be seen along the rivers and waterways of Eastern Australia.

For some Australian Aborigines, the water dragon is a totem animal, playing a part in the rich tradition of storytelling called "Dreamtime Stories." Relating to the mythical Chinese dragon, these creatures are said to bring divine presence and provide a gateway to the astrological world.
